About c.HAIR.i.TEE®

At c.HAIR.i.TEE®, we believe that you don't have to sacrifice style, quality, or comfort to live sustainably.  All our products are made from recycled, reclaimed, renewable materials, and are designed and produced with the lowest possible impact on the earth.  True sustainability is only achieved when every step in the process is carried out with dignity and respect for people and the planet.  Together we can change the world, one headband or hairtie at a time.

The name c.HAIR.i.TEE® represents “hair” accessories made out of recycled "tee" shirts.  More importantly, all profits made by the company will be given back to a different charity, on a quarterly basis.

Our Founding Story

It all started with our founder, Julie Bartos, growing up as the baby of the family in the 60’s with the majority of her clothes being hand-me-downs from her older sisters.  Special occasions and summer vacations always seemed to bring a brand new article of clothing, handmade by her grandmother.

Being a dedicated athlete all through the 70’s, her hair always had to be out of her face.  She distinctly remembers the hair aches and the creases caused by the doo-dads that she had available to keep her hair in place.

The day finally came that she became frustrated with the bandeaus that would break or hurt her ears, and the rubber bands and pony tail holders that ripped her hair out and stretched out. She decided to take some  old t-shirts and tie them up to keep her hair back.  This is how c.HAIR.i.TEE® began.

Today,  c.HAIR.i.TEE®  hair accessories are made from the fabrics from charitable resale shops supporting local businesses and contributing to a more sustainable environment with less textile waste.  We also receive lots of donations and help companies that wish to be "zero waste" by accepting their fabric scraps for repurposing.
